Verantwortungsvolles Handeln ist in der HR Group ein selbstverständlicher Teil unserer Philosophie.
Corporate Social Responsibility
The purpose of corporate social responsibility (CSR) is to promote and support the public good. Projects of relevance for society and social projects have long been part and parcel of the HR Group’s corporate activities. Taking on social and ecological responsibility has been a guiding principle of the company’s policy not just of late. Currently, the HR Group is involved in a large number of CSR projects, ranging from small initiatives that help individuals through to fundamental changes that improve the environmental and living conditions of an entire region.
Being one of the largest enterprises in the European footwear industry, the group of companies places great importance on the maintenance of social standards in the supplying countries. To ensure the steady improvement of social benefits at the production sites, the HR Group has been a member of the BSCI – the Business Social Compliance Initiative – since 2007. This is a control system for business enterprises, associations, importers and manufacturing companies. The HR Group’s code of conduct corresponds to that of the BSCI. It is in agreement with the conventions of the International Labour Organisation (ILO), the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of the United Nations, the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW). The guidelines of the code of conduct ensure adherence to social standards in production and are an integral part of the supplier contracts.
Quality for the protection of health
The demands that the HR Group places on itself include delivering not only excellent product quality, but also merchandise which contains no substances that are harmful or impair the consumer’s health as defined by EU directives and German legislation. To avoid hazardous substances in all materials used by the Group, it has put a comprehensive quality management system in place in collaboration with its suppliers.
The HR Group was the first company in the footwear industry to obtain the “Systematische Qualitätssicherung” (Systematic Quality Assurance) seal of approval after it was successfully certified by the test institute Hansecontrol, one of the world’s leading laboratories for the control of harmful substances. This has set new standards in the footwear sector.
Another unique feature in the industry is the fact that in 2013 the group of companies opened its own chemical laboratory at its Osnabrück site. On more than 400 m2 the HR Group’s own, competent lab team tests shoes for substances that pose a potential health risk, far exceeding legal regulations.
CATS – Cooperation for Avoiding Toxic Substances
The HR Group is a founding member of the CATS initiative for avoiding toxic substances in leather and leather products. The group of companies has thus taken an important step towards footwear and leather products being free from harmful substances for the long term.
Scientific partners of the initiative are the test and research institute PFI Prüf- und Forschungsinstitut Pirmasens e. V. and numerous other experts from the world of science, authorities, test labs, industry and medicine. The HR Group organises numerous seminars and continuing education and training events at an international level jointly with these partners, in order to convey to manufacturers and suppliers the knowledge that is required for avoiding harmful substances in shoe and leather production.
Climate protection initiative CPI2
As a company of the HR Group, Reno, along with eight large German business enterprises and branded companies, is a founding member of the climate protection initiative CPI2. The Carbon Performance Improvement Initiative (CPI2) aims to save several tonnes of CO2 every year and to transfer energy-saving know-how in the global supply chain of imported products.
The climate protection initiative has developed a management tool for manufacturers, in particular in the emerging economies and developing countries. The initiative’s easy-to-handle online tool allows suppliers to evaluate their own energy consumption in all company divisions.
With the climate protection initiative the HR Group once more confirms its commitment to facing the challenges of globalisation.
3E – the children’s shoe system
About one in three children does not wear shoes that fit. This constitutes a serious health hazard – a fact which prompted Reno as early as 2002 to significantly expand its active involvement in the children’s shoe segment. An entirely new children’s shoe system was developed through constant research in cooperation with the University Hospital of Tübingen and the Chemnitz University of Technology. This system gives parents greater certainty of finding fitting shoes for their child, thus promoting the healthy development of the child’s feet.
Constant research in the field of children’s feet and footwear is of special concern to Reno. The world’s largest foot-measuring study was conducted in 2008. Jointly with the Chemnitz University of Technology, 340,000 children’s feet were measured and the results analysed. This representative study has confirmed the scientific relevance and correctness of the 3E children’s shoe system. In 2009, a patent was granted for the 3E children’s shoe system. The group of companies is currently continuing its research with the dynamic measurement of children’s feet.
The 3E children’s shoe system provides parents and children with comprehensive support in purchasing the right shoes.
All branches of Reno are equipped with modern 3D foot measuring scanners. The feet of the child should be measured prior to any shoe purchase. The result of the measurement shows the actual length and width of the foot.Real size
Unfortunately, shoe sizes are not standardised. As a result, shoe sizes may vary considerably depending on manufacturer, production and material. To make sure the children’s shoes have the correct size, all children’s shoes are measured manually upon receipt and marked with the real size. This way parents can be certain that the shoe actually fits.Real fit
Just as harmful as shoes that are too small or too large are shoes that are too wide or too tight. Therefore, the HR Group has developed the bama kids real fit shoes. They are available in three different fits: mini for slim feet, midi for normal feet and maxi for sturdy feet. The HR Group supports numerous additional social projects
For example, Reno has been a partner of the “DEUTSCHLAND RUNDET AUF” (Germany rounds up) donation campaign from the start. DEUTSCHLAND RUNDET AUF is an independent charitable organisation with an innovative donation system that gives everyone the opportunity to improve the chances of disadvantaged children in Germany.
The donation money is generated via a cooperation arrangement with German retailers. Customers can round up purchase amounts at the cash till by a maximum of ten cents by saying: “Round up, please!”
Every rounded-up cent is spent 100% to benefit carefully selected projects which improve the chances of disadvantaged children and whose quality has been checked independently. Suitable projects may apply for support at DEUTSCHLAND RUNDET AUF. A high-calibre advisory board selects the donation projects on the basis of recommendations by established and independent experts.
